Rabbit Hutch.PNG

Rabbit Hutch

39″ wide x 28″ deep x 16″ high (1m x 710mm x 400mm)

Very solid construction. Made with PTG pressure treated green timber and felt-covered roof.

Your Rabbit(s) should have access to a large area with things to keep them active and entertained. Hutches should be moved indoors during the colder months and an insulating layer should be applied. Rabbits should not live alone. This hutch is not suitable as a rabbit’s only living space.

Bird Box

These subtle nesting boxes provide a safe and snug place for birds to roost and nest whilst preserving and encouraging wildlife. With a detachable roof for easy access.

This bird box is untreated. A suitable animal safe treatment/preserver should be applied and fully dry before installing your birdbox.

BAT-BOX-600x400.png

Bat Box

PAR timber with internal grooves to allow bats to climb in through the small underside entrance. The roof is fixed in place so the bats will not be disturbed.

Boxes are more likely to be used if they are located where bats are known to feed. Ideally, several boxes should be put up facing in different directions to provide a range of conditions. Boxes should be put as high as possible in sheltered sunny places. On buildings, boxes should be placed as close to the eaves as possible. Some bats use a tree line or hedgerow for navigation. Putting boxes near these features may help the bats find the box.

Locate boxes:

• Where bats are known to feed close to hedges and tree lines

• Ideally at least 4m above the ground (where safe installation is possible)

• Sheltered from strong winds and exposed to the sun for part of the day (usually south or south-west)

Bats need time to find and explore new homes, and it may be several months or even years before boxes have residents – be patient! Once bats find a place they want to live they can return over and over again. Droppings on the landing area, urine stains around the lower parts of the box and chittering noises from inside on warm afternoons and evenings are signs of occupation.

This bat box is untreated. A suitable animal safe treatment/preserver should be applied and fully dry before installing your birdbox.

Hedgehog-box.jpg

Hedgehog House

This is a design that the British Hedgehog Preservation Society recommends and is a permanent type of home. Made with PAR timber. The wood can be treated with water based preservative only on the outside. On no account should the hedgehog house be creosoted or treated with non-water based preservatives or paint as the fumes remain for a long time and can be very harmful. Do not nail down the roof as you may need to clean the box in the future. Make sure the entrance is kept clear and avoid the temptation to disturb the hedgehogs. The finished home could be covered with plastic sheeting, soil and twigs placed on top, or left as it is. Straw and any leaves left outside may be taken in and used for bedding by any prospective resident.

Chicken-House2.jpg

Chicken Coop

The main things to consider are SECURITY from Foxes and Dogs, SAFE by not making it easy for them to escape, HEALTHY by being somewhere where they have shade and sheltered from the extremes and of course YOURSELVES in where it is to go and feed them every morning (can be a chore on a cold rainy January morning!) and of course the MAINTENANCE.

There is a false perception that Chickens need grass. They have far better fun weeding the Greenhouse, Vegetable Patches and scraping under the Hedges. They only decimate a Lawn because they want to get to what’s underneath. So putting a Chicken House in the middle of your Garden on some grass basically means the grass will be gone in a matter of days, you move them on, the same things happen and before you know it, the whole Lawn has become spent and a distant memory.
